Dashboard

The Dashboard is a customizable page of widgets that summarize your finances. You can keep the home Dashboard as an overview, and create sub-dashboards for focused views. Layout and widget settings are changed in Edit mode.

Tutorial

Customize the home Dashboard with a widget

1. Open Dashboard in the side navigation.
2. Open the page menu (three dots) and turn on Edit mode.
3. Choose Add Widget.
4. Pick a widget, set its Title and initial settings, then choose Add.
5. Drag the widget by its drag handle to place it, and use the resize handle in the bottom-right corner if you want a different size.
6. Turn Edit mode off when you are done.

The home Dashboard already includes starter widgets such as net worth, expenses overview, assets distribution, and income versus expense. You can keep, change, or remove them.

How-to

Create a sub-dashboard

1. Open Settings, then Preferences.
2. In the Dashboards section, choose Add Dashboard.
3. Enter a name in New dashboard name.
4. Confirm with the check action.

The new sub-dashboard appears under Dashboard in the side navigation. It starts empty until you add widgets.

Rename a sub-dashboard

1. Open Settings > Preferences.
2. In Dashboards, change the name in the field for that sub-dashboard.
3. Confirm with the check action.

Reorder sub-dashboards

1. Open Settings > Preferences.
2. In Dashboards, drag a sub-dashboard by its drag handle to a new position in the list.

The side navigation follows that order.

Duplicate a sub-dashboard

1. Open Settings > Preferences.
2. In Dashboards, choose Duplicate on the sub-dashboard.
3. A copy is created with Copy added to the name, including its widgets.

Remove a sub-dashboard

1. Open Settings > Preferences.
2. In Dashboards, choose Remove on the sub-dashboard.
3. Confirm with Remove, or choose Cancel.

The home Dashboard itself cannot be removed or duplicated from Preferences.

Turn edit mode on or off

1. Open a dashboard (home or a sub-dashboard).
2. Open the page menu.
3. Use the Edit mode switch.

While Edit mode is on, you can add, remove, move, resize, and configure widgets that allow those actions.

Add a widget

1. Turn on Edit mode, or choose Add Widget from the page menu.
2. In Add Widget, select a widget type.
3. Set the Title and the widget's settings.
4. Choose Add.

Move or resize a widget

1. Turn on Edit mode.
2. To move: drag the widget using the drag handle in its header.
3. To resize: drag the resize handle at the bottom-right corner (when the widget allows resizing).

Layout changes are saved while you are in Edit mode.

Change a widget's settings

1. Turn on Edit mode.
2. Open the settings (gear) action on the widget header.
3. Change the settings as needed.
4. Choose Save, or Close to discard.

You can also open settings from full screen when the widget supports settings. See Widget header actions and each widget's guide for details.

Remove a widget

1. Turn on Edit mode.
2. Choose the delete action on the widget header.
3. Confirm with Delete

Open a widget in full screen

1. On the widget header, choose the full screen action (when the widget supports it).
2. Review the larger view.
3. If settings are available, use the settings action in the dialog to open or hide the settings side panel.
4. Close the dialog when finished.

Full screen works whether or not Edit mode is on.

Change the page date, commodity, or empty-accounts visibility

Date (period)

1. Use the period control in the page header.
2. Pick a suggestion such as This month, This quarter, or This year, or choose Month, Quarter, Year, Range, or All time.

That period is remembered and used by widgets that have Use global date turned on.

Commodity

1. Open the page menu.
2. Choose Commodity.
3. Pick a commodity in Select Commodity.

The page starts from your default commodity. Widgets that have Use global commodity turned on follow this choice.

Empty accounts

1. Open the page menu.
2. Choose Hide empty accounts or Show empty accounts.

This affects widgets that list subaccounts and is remembered.

Home Dashboard and sub-dashboards

• Dashboard (home) - The main overview page in the side navigation. It ships with a set of starter widgets you can change.
• Sub-dashboards - Extra pages under Dashboard in the side navigation. Create, rename, reorder, duplicate, and remove them in Settings > Preferences > Dashboards.
• Opening a sub-dashboard shows a breadcrumb back to the home Dashboard.

Page header controls

• Period control - Sets the global date range for the page. Suggestions include This month, This quarter, and This year. Options include Month, Quarter, Year, Range, and All time.
• Page menu
  • Edit mode - Enables layout and widget editing.
  • Commodity - Sets the page commodity for widgets that use the global commodity.
  • Add Widget - Opens Add Widget.
  • Hide empty accounts / Show empty accounts - Controls whether empty subaccounts appear in widgets that list them.

Edit mode

When Edit mode is on:

• Widgets that allow it show a drag handle and can be moved.
• Widgets that allow it show a resize handle and can be resized.
• Widgets that allow it show settings and remove actions.
• The page menu still offers Add Widget.

When Edit mode is off, you view the dashboard and can still open full screen on widgets that support it.

Widget header actions

• Title - The widget name, or a dynamic title when the widget is set to generate one.
• Full screen - Opens a larger view (when supported).
• Settings - Opens the widget configuration drawer (in Edit mode, when supported).
• Remove - Deletes the widget after confirmation (in Edit mode, when supported).
• Drag handle - Moves the widget (in Edit mode, when supported).
• Resize handle - Changes the widget size from the bottom-right corner (in Edit mode, when supported).

Account pages that use widgets

Assets, Expenses, Liabilities, and Revenues are account pages that show a fixed set of predefined widgets for that account category.

They share similar page controls with dashboards:

• Date period control
• Commodity
• Hide empty accounts / Show empty accounts

They do not offer Edit mode, and you cannot add, remove, move, resize, or reconfigure their widgets the way you can on a dashboard. Some of those widgets still support full screen. Account management actions (search, add, edit, delete account) appear in the account page menu; see Accounts.

Explanation

What a dashboard is for

A dashboard groups widgets on one page so you can watch balances, trends, and activity without opening each report separately. The home Dashboard is the default overview. Sub-dashboards are extra pages when you want a different mix of widgets (for example a savings focus or a monthly review).

Page-level settings versus widget settings

Page-level controls set the shared context for the view: period, commodity, and whether empty subaccounts are shown.

Widget settings control what that one widget shows. When Use global date or Use global commodity is on, the widget follows the page. When either is off, that widget uses its own date or commodity and can disagree with the page header.

Home Dashboard versus sub-dashboards

The home Dashboard always exists and appears as Dashboard in the navigation. You manage widgets on it in Edit mode, but you do not create or delete the home page itself in Preferences.

Sub-dashboards are created under the home Dashboard. Each has its own name, order, and widgets. Duplicating a sub-dashboard copies its widgets onto a new page named with Copy.
